A
long and
distinguished history
Milwaukie—our first location
In July 1987, Steven
and Richard Morse purchased Milwaukie Lumber Company
from the Kingsley family, which had operated the
business at the present Milwaukie location since
1939. Since we purchased the company more than two
decades ago, many changes have taken shape.
In 1989
we built a new showroom, a bold expansion that took
us from 700 sq. ft. to 3,500 sq. ft. At the same
time, we undertook a major paving project and replaced
gravel with asphalt (to the delight of our many customers.)
We expanded the plywood shed in 1992 and added new
office space in 1993.
As you can see, we place great
importance on making physical improvements that benefit
our customers and employees.
North to Vancouver
In August 1996, the Milwaukie yard
topped $2 million in sales for that month, a record
at that time. In order to accommodate our ever-growing
legions of customers, we realized that we needed
to expand our operations. That led us north, across
the Columbia River, to Vancouver, Washington.
The
Milwaukie Lumber Vancouver yard extends across five
acres of land at the corner of NE 131st Street and
Fourth Plain Boulevard. Our retail/warehouse building,
constructed in 1992, encompasses 46,000 spacious
sq. ft. of space.
Our first Portland location
In May 1999 we were approached
by an old acquaintance—the Kingsley family,
and we entered into negotiations to purchase their
store at S.E. 81st and Stark Street in Portland.
Since this facility was strategically located midway
between our Milwaukie and Vancouver locations, it
was a very desirable acquisition and we completed
the transaction.
Our
Stark Street locale provides convenient access for
many accounts and customers—from Gresham to
Northwest Portland.
3 stores working together as 1
Wherever you are in
greater Portland/Vancouver there’s
a Milwaukie Lumber location to serve you.
Since 1987,
Steve Morse has served as our president and general

group of key employees over the years, we have enjoyed
strong sustained growth.
Our future plans are to continue
to expand within the Portland/Vancouver metropolitan
area. As we grow, Milwaukie Lumber is committed
to continue the superior brand of customer service
that you’ve come
to know and expect.
We are dedicated to helping you
succeed for many years to come.
