How we calculate

Posts: Linear feet ÷ spacing, round up, + 1. No waste added. Post length = fence height + 2 ft in the ground, rounded up to a stock 8 / 10 / 12 ft length.
Rails: ~1 rail per 24" of height — 2 rails up to 4 ft, 3 at 5–6 ft, 4 at 8 ft. Total rail run ÷ 8 ft stock lengths, +10% waste. (Split rails are counted one per span instead.)
Pickets: Based on style — privacy uses 6" boards (butted), board-on-board overlaps ~1.2" (≈2.7 boards/ft). 10% waste added.
Concrete: ~2 bags (60 lb) per post — a 4×4 in a 10"×24" hole. Verify with local frost-depth code.
